Custom Outdoor Lighting Design in Southwest Florida

A bespoke plan built around your property — the craft that defines everything we do.

Custom lighting design is our signature service — the craft that sits underneath every project. It's the difference between lighting that looks intentional and lighting that looks like an afterthought, and it's where we start every job.

Our design philosophy

We design to the property, not a template. Every home and landscape is different — different architecture, different foliage, different ways of being used after dark. A custom design accounts for all of it, layering light for depth and choosing each fixture for a purpose.

What custom design includes

  • A full property consultation and assessment
  • Identification of focal points, sightlines, and zones
  • Fixture selection, placement, and beam angles
  • A layered plan — uplight, moonlight, path, and accent
  • A clear scope with pricing, before any installation

Layers of light

A custom design is built in layers, not stacked fixtures. The structural layer comes first — the trees, architecture, and anchors that give the property shape after dark. The navigational layer follows — paths, drives, and steps that make the space safe and readable. The ambient layer fills the middle — beds, garden, and the soft glow that ties everything together. Strip any layer and the design feels flat; the craft is in balancing all three so none dominates.

Focal points and sightlines

Every property has a moment the eye should land on first. It might be a specimen palm, a textured entry, a water feature, or a long view down a drive. Custom design identifies those focal points and the sightlines that reach them — then builds outward. Lighting everything evenly is the easy default; designing for hierarchy, where some elements glow and others recede, is what separates a composed scene from a lit yard.

Visual composition

The final design reads as one composition, the way a room does. We balance brightness and shadow, warm and cool, height and ground — so the eye moves naturally rather than getting caught on a hot spot. Fixture choices, beam angles, and color temperature all serve that composition; a fixture is never chosen in isolation. When the plan is right, the lights disappear and what stays is the effect.

Southwest Florida design considerations

Coastal architecture, mature palms, tropical foliage, and coastal-zone requirements all shape the design. See our landscape lighting design page for the detailed approach, and our process for how a design moves from consultation to installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes design 'custom'?

It starts from your property, not a template. We assess your architecture, landscape, and how you use the space, then design a layered plan specific to you — rather than applying a standard package.

Is the design separate from installation?

Design leads installation, but they're one process with us. The design defines the plan; the installation executes it. You get a clear scope and pricing before any work begins.
